Hi Everyone

What is the difference between 26010 and 10060 ( CPT ) for an I&D of patients finger?

Re: I&D finger

10060 is incision and drainage of abscess....key word abscess.

20610 is needle puncture/ insertion to drain fluid from and/or inject something, usually medication, into a major joint or bursa. A finger joint is not a major joint or bursa. 20610 is not an appropriate code for a finger procedure. For finger, 26000.

It's important to pay attention to the code descriptors. In addition, you need to pay attention to what area is being incised and drained, then match your code accordingly. What area of the finger is being drained/aspirated and why?
