We are having an issue with GA Medicaid paying ACL 29888 for an assist/co. Even though Medicare allows and RBRVs say ok and all other carriers, Medicaid is denying them all saying not normally needing an assist/co. Is anyone else having this issue with Medicaid any where? Just trying to get some info together. Their only response is -80 is never paid on this. Boy, they're cutting everything out now a days. Still waiting on another response from them but in the mean time, just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue. Thanks

You may have already tried this, but you can try appealing the denial by sending Medicaid a copy of Medicare's Correct Coding Initiative guidelines for 29888 which indicates that an assistant surgeon's services are reimbursable. May want to attach a copy of the op report, also. We don't have any straight Medicaid patients, so I can't state specifically that this will work.
