UnicorMed is a private coding book publisher
and coding software development company in Montgomery, Alabama.
You may also know us by the name Unicor Medical, Inc.
We offer innovative coding
tools that make the coding process easier, more efficient,
and more accurate. By increasing coding accuracy, our products
help increase compliance and optimize reimbursement.
Our history
UnicorMed was founded by Paul K. Tanaka, M.D., the Vice-President
and Medical Director of one of the largest physician groups
in the Southeast. In the 1980s Dr. Tanaka became increasingly
aware of how complex coding is and how important it is for
physicians and hospitals. He began researching the role
of coding in reimbursement and the factors that commonly
cause confusion and error. He devoted some 35,000 hours
to developing and refining a more efficient ICD-9 format,
as is seen now in the Easy Coder books and Alpha II software
programs.
Our people
In 1990, Dr. Tanaka founded UnicorMed and brought together
an expert coding team which produces and updates current
products and works to develop new products. In fact, one-third
of the members of our entire staff are certified coders.
Moreover, UnicorMed is staffed from top to bottom with physicians,
nurses, coders, office managers, compliance experts, record administrators,
coding instructors, and others with years of healthcare
and coding experience. Members of our staff are frequently
invited to be guest speakers on the topics of coding, reimbursement,
and compliance at conventions and seminars across the country.
